Summit Leadership Academy: For Students

The Summit Leadership Academy will support the development of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students into graduates who are poised to prosper in today's economy. These students are a part of the fastest growing racial groups in the country and will become critical contributors to the nation's workforce and central to America's economic development. Sessions will focus on professional skills development, mentorship, career aspirations, and leadership training. Students will reflect on their individual strengths, desires, and passions as they chart their paths to become leaders and change agents in their industry and advocates within the AAPI community. At the completion of the Leadership Academy, students will receive a certificate of completion for their accomplishments.

Leadership Academy sessions will address:

  • AAPI Identity: Incorporating and addressing one's personal identity in a professional setting
  • Professional Skills Training: Resume building, interviewing, networking, job searching
  • Financial Literacy: Planning for future education, understanding loans, financial planning
  • Mentorship: How to develop a mentorship relationship that is supportive and inspiring
  • Advocacy/Non-Profit: Understanding the field, how to be an outstanding candidate
  • Graduate School: Finding the program that is the best fit, how to apply and be an outstanding candidate
  • Corporate: Understanding the field and how to be an outstanding candidate
  • Career Clarity: Transforming your passions and strengths into a career with meaning and purpose

Tentative Agenda

8:30am-9:00am Scholar Breakfast and Lei Ceremony—Introduction of APIASF Scholars and local students.
9:10am-9:45am Morning Keynote Speaker and Welcome
10:00am -11:00am Session: Bringing your identity into multicultural contexts
11:15am-12:30pm Morning Concurrent Sessions—To focus on basic professional/leadership skills
Three breakouts sessions:
  • Resume Building
  • Networking
  • Workplace Habits and Skills
12:45pm-1:45pm Lunch + Wells Fargo Financial Literacy Session
2:00pm-3:15pm Afternoon Concurrent Sessions—To focus on application of skills in the following fields
Three breakout sessions:
  • Corporate
  • Advocacy/Nonprofit
  • Graduate School
3:30pm-4:00pm Closing

For APIASF Scholars & Alumni:

APIASF is excited to offer a select number of travel grants for Scholars wishing to attend the APIASF Summit: ELEVATE on September 29th- September 30th, 2017 in Washington, D.C.

Leadership Academy sessions will focus on professional skills development, mentorship, career aspirations, and leadership training. Students will reflect on their individual strengths, desires, and passions as they chart their paths to become leaders and change agents in their industry and advocates within the AAPI community. At the completion of the Leadership Academy, students will receive a certificate of completion for their accomplishments.

Eligibility

Applicants must be current or past recipients of either the APIASF General Scholarship award, the APIASF AANAPISI Scholarship award, or Gates Millennium Scholarship. Verification will be conducted prior to awarding of the travel grants.
